Peter G. Schardt was born on March 17, 1861, in Saukville, Wisconsin to George Schardt and Margaretta Yeck. He married Katherine Lauterbach (daughter of Mathias Lauterbach and Susan Geib) on January 13, 1887, in Saukville. She was born on October 22, 1866, there.
Peter is listed in the 1870 census and 1880 census living in Saukville, then in the census from 1890 to 1910 in Milwaukee with an occupation as saloonkeeper. Prohibition officially began January 17, 1920. In the 1920 census, he had moved to Russell, Wisconsin, about 80 miles north of Milwaukee.
Peter and Katherine had seven children:
