Leo Patrick Schardt was born on January 26, 1915, in North Chicago, Illinois. He married Helen Unitus on June 12, 1937. She was born on May 23, 1916, in Aurora, Illinois.
In the 1940 census, Leo and Helen were lodging in a house in Evanston with the Chamberlain family. Leo had finished high school and was working as a machine operator, making $1350 a year.
Leo died at age 81 on February 25, 1996, in Tucson, Arizona. Helen died at age 93 in Tucson.
They had two children:
- Linda Ruth Schardt (born 1944)
- Catherine Schardt (born 1947)
